ISHAAN: A System for Bidirectional Machine Translation Between

About the project:

NLP technologies are the key to connecting billions of people around the globe to
access and avail the facilities, provisions, learning resources, knowledge, and benefits of the internet in multifarious domains like education, agriculture, commerce, climate, and so on. The Government of India has undertaken initiatives for building machine translation systems, cross-lingual search engines, speech processing technologies, OCR, etc. across a number of Indian languages. Machine
Translation (MT) is a critical aspect of it. Hence, the project aims to build a high-quality bidirectional Machine Translation (MT) system for translation between 1) English and Assamese, Bodo, Manipuri, Nepali 2) Hindi and Manipuri 3) Assamese and Bodo.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

BE/BTech in CSE/Maths- and Computing/ECE/EE.

Desired qualification:

(a) Exposure in AI/ML/Deep learning,
(b) good programming skill,
(c) system level knowledge,
(d) Statistics, Probability, Data Science will be an advantage.

Job Profile:

a. Model Building
b. Familiarity with NLP tools for Indian languages (ex: should be familiar with IndicNLP library).
c. Development of pre and post-processing modules for machine translation.
d. Developing data collections, processing, model training and evaluation pipelines.
e. Conducting in-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis of MT systems.

Pay Details:

Level PR-A3: Salary range from Rs.25200 to Rs. 50400 + Rs.5000.00/- Out Of Campus Allowance (if applicable) p.m.

General information:
1. Above mentioned positions are purely temporary in nature and may be extended till the duration of the project. The position is temporary for a period of 1 year and tenable only for the duration of the project.
2. Applications in response to the advertisement will be scrutinized and shortlisted. Merely fulfilling the requirements prescribed in the advertisement does not automatically entitle an application to be taken forward in the selection process.
3. Applicants should ensure at their end that they possess the essential qualification(s) and experience laid down for the post. The qualification degree(s) must be from a recognized University /Institute.

5. Decision of the Institute in all matters relating to the eligibility of the applicants, Written Test and Selection shall be final and binding on all the applicants
6. Initially the post would be for 1 years. The performance of the selected/ appointed staff member shall be assessed before expiry of the contract and only those found suitable will be offered extension after completion of 1 year.

8. The Institute/employer reserves the right not to fill any of the advertised posts.
9. The selection committee may offer lower or higher designation and lower or higher salary depending upon the experience and performance of the candidate in the interview.
