JNCASR invites online applications for admission to the following degree programmes

Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) invites applications for admission to Ph.D, M.S.(Engg.), MS(Research), Integrated PhD, Master of Science (M.Sc) in Chemistry and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in inter-disciplinary Biosciences programmes commencing in August 2023. Research Programmes [Ph.D./M.S. (Engg.)/M.S. (Research)] in

Sciences and Engineering from candidates with M.Sc. or equivalent, B.E./B.Tech./B.S. (4 year) or equivalent, or M.E./M.Tech. or equivalent, or B.V.Sc./M.V.Sc. or M.B.B.S./M.D. as applicable to individual Units. Candidates should have at least 55% marks in their highest University examination and should also have qualified in any one of the National exams: GATE/JEST/GPAT/UGC-JRF/CSIR-JRF/ICMR-JRF/DBT-JRF/INSPIRE-JRF.

Selection procedure

Candidates are short-listed for an interview based on their performance in the national entrance test(s) and academic performance. The selection is based on the performance in the interview (in some Units, an aptitude test/preliminary interview may precede the final interview)

Note: Interviews will be held in person

Fellowships:

Ph D students will receive JRF/SRF (as per Govt. norms) of Rs. 31,000/- p.m (first two years) – 35,000 (next three years).

M S (Research)/ M S (Engg.) students will receive a scholarship of Rs. 31,000/- p.m

Medical / Insurance facility: Students are automatically enrolled in a Group Insurance Scheme and a Comprehensive Medical Scheme and have access to an on-campus doctor, as well as to medical facilities elsewhere.

Travel grants:

PhD: One-time students travel grant up to Rs.1,00,000/- is provided to attend international/national conferences.

MS(Engg.)/MS(Research): One-time students travel grant of up to Rs.40,000/- is provided to attend international/national conferences.

Our students have attended conferences in countries such as Korea, Iran, France, Singapore, the United States of America, Japan, Sweden, Italy, Israel, etc.

Tuition Fee, etc: Current norms for payment of tuition fees is Rs.10,000/- per annum for PhD and Rs.7,000/- for MS(Engg.)/MS(Research). In addition, Rs 200 as medical charges and a group insurance fee of Rs. 25 will be charged every month.

Master of Science (M.Sc) in Chemistry

with an option to specialize in Materials Chemistry or Chemical Biology or Energy. Applicants possessing a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s degree in any
branch of Science with Chemistry as a major subject and who have qualified the Joint Admissions Test for Masters (JAM) 2023 are eligible to apply.

 

Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Inter-Disciplinary Biosciences

with an option to specialize in Epigenetics and Diseases, Neurosciences, Human Disease Genetics, or Chemical Biology approach to understanding Disease Biology and Drug discovery. Applicants possessing a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Biological Science with Chemistry as a significant subject and who have qualified for the Joint Admissions Test for Masters (JAM) 2023 and/or equivalent examination are eligible to apply.

 

Eligibility:

Applicants possessing a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Science with Chemistry as a major subject and who have qualified for the Joint Admissions Test for Masters (JAM) 2023 are eligible to apply.

Selection procedure:

Shortlisted JAM candidates will be called for an interview directly. The final selection is based on the performance in the interview.

Note: The interview will be held in person

Tuition Fee etc:

Fees would be as per the norms of the Centre. The current norms for payment of tuition fees are Rs 5000/- per annum. In addition, Rs 200 as medical charges and a group insurance fee of Rs. 25 will be deducted every month.

Scholarship/Fellowship: Scholarship/fellowship will  NOT be paid during this tenure.

Integrated PhD Programmes

in Physical Science, Chemical Science and Biological Science.
Candidates should have a minimum of 55% marks at the Bachelor’s level. Those appearing in the final examination of their Bachelor’s degree this year may also apply. Candidates who qualified in the Joint Admissions Test for Masters (JAM) 2023 are encouraged to apply.

 Selection procedure:

Shortlisting for interviews for selection to the Int. Ph.D. Physical Science programme will be based on academic records, performance in the national level exams, and statement of purpose mentioned in the application form.

Shortlisting for interviews for selection to the Int. PhD. Chemical Science Programme will be based on the Joint Admission test for Master’s (JAM) 2023 score.

The applications for the Int. PhD Biological Science programme will be screened based on overall academic performance for eligibility to attend an entrance exam. Successful candidates will be invited to appear for interviews shortly afterwards.

The final selection to the Int. PhD. The degree Programme will be based on the performance in the interview.

Scholarships/Fellowships: Integrated PhD students are paid a fellowship of Rs.19000/- for the first two years, Rs.31,000/- during the third and fourth years and Rs.35,000/- during the fifth, sixth and seventh year

Medical / Insurance facility: Students are automatically enrolled in a Group Insurance Scheme and a Comprehensive Medical Scheme and have access to an on-campus doctor, as well as to medical facilities elsewhere.

Travel grants: While pursuing PhD from the third year onwards, one time students travel grant of up to Rs.1,00,000/- is provided to attend international/national conferences.
